Why the Brand Behind Your Garage Door Matters

Your garage door is the largest moving part of your house and usually the first thing anyone notices from the street. The brand you pick decides how well it holds back a 115°F afternoon, how long the paint survives the UV, how quietly it runs, and what happens when a panel gets dented three years from now. Once you've narrowed down a brand, our guides to garage door styles and garage door materials fill in the rest of the picture.

R-Value

The higher the R-value, the more heat the door holds out. On an attached garage in the Phoenix area, moving from an uninsulated door to a polyurethane one is the single change homeowners actually notice.

Steel Gauge & Build

Lower gauge means thicker steel. Premium doors run 23–24 gauge and shrug off a basketball; economy doors run 26–27 gauge and dent easier. Triple-layer construction adds stiffness on top of insulation.

Warranty Coverage

Warranty terms change from model to model inside the same brand, and almost all of them are original-purchaser-only. We link the manufacturer's own warranty PDF on every door page so you can read the real terms, and we stand behind our own labor and hardware.

Arizona Tested

Desert sun finds every weak finish and thin foam core. We stick with brands whose baked-on paint, polyurethane cores, and weatherseal systems we've watched hold up on Mesa and Gilbert driveways.

Clopay®

North America's largest residential garage door manufacturer — and the widest style range we carry.

Highest R-Value We Install 10 Collections Full Catalog On Our Site

Clopay is the most requested brand among our Mesa and Gilbert customers, and it's the one we reach for when somebody wants a specific look. Their Intellicore® polyurethane insulation is injected as a liquid between two steel skins and expands to fill every void — that's what gets a steel door to R-18.4. The composite Canyon Ridge collection goes further still, at up to R-20.4, and it's the highest-rated door on this entire page.

Why We Recommend Clopay

  • Intellicore® insulation: Liquid polyurethane injected between two steel skins expands to fill every void, so there are no cold gaps — and no rattling foam board. Up to R-18.4 on steel.
  • Canyon Ridge tops the chart: Up to R-20.4 on the composite-overlay line, and it's the standard build — you can't order one under-insulated by mistake.
  • The widest style range we carry: Ten collections covering stamped carriage, flush modern, full-view glass, composite overlay, and real wood. If a house has an unusual elevation, Clopay usually has the answer.
  • Every insulation tier on the volume lines: Classic Steel, Modern Steel, Gallery, and Coachman are all available non-insulated, polystyrene, or Intellicore — so there's a version at nearly any budget.
  • Proven on Arizona driveways: We've put Clopay doors on hundreds of homes across Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler, and Scottsdale. The baked-on finishes hold their color, and the insulated models make a real difference in an attached garage.

Amarr is the brand we point families toward. Practically every Amarr steel door is built with the SafeGuard® safety system — pinch-protection sections that close without a gap for fingers, 14-gauge hidden end and center hinges, and a tamper-resistant bottom bracket that can't be pulled off while the door is under spring tension. And on the top of the line, Amarr's triple-layer polyurethane doors reach R-19.40, the highest steel R-value on this page.

Why We Recommend Amarr

  • SafeGuard® is standard, not an upgrade: Pinch-protection sections, hidden 14-gauge end and center hinges, and a tamper-resistant bottom bracket come on practically every Amarr steel door at no extra cost. Roughly 20,000 people a year are hurt by garage doors, and hands and fingers lead that list.
  • The strongest steel insulation on this page: Olympus and Designer's Choice reach R-19.40 with 2″ polyurethane. That's a genuinely different garage in July.
  • Springs covered, not just panels: On the top warranty tiers, Amarr covers sections, functional hardware, and springs for the life of the door for the original purchaser — spring coverage most manufacturers leave out.
  • Standard torsion springs: No proprietary counterbalance. When it's time for a spring, it's an ordinary, affordable service call from any competent shop.
  • Sixteen collections, all published here: Every Amarr line we can order has its own page on this site with panel designs, window options, and the exact warranty class from Amarr's consolidated warranty document.

Wayne Dalton

TorqueMaster Plus® — the counterbalance spring lives inside a steel tube, not exposed above your head.

Enclosed Spring System 21 Collections Steel, Wood, Glass, Fiberglass & Vinyl

Wayne Dalton has been building garage doors since 1954, and the thing that sets them apart is the TorqueMaster Plus® counterbalance system: the torsion spring is sealed inside a steel tube above the opening instead of running exposed across a shaft. Nothing to catch a ladder on, nothing to look at, and if a spring ever lets go it stays contained. Their catalog is also the broadest material range we carry — steel, real wood, fiberglass, vinyl, and frameless glass all under one brand.

Custom Wood

Bespoke panel layouts, non-standard sizes, your choice of species and hardware. For when nothing stock fits.

Why We Recommend Wayne Dalton

  • TorqueMaster Plus® enclosed springs: The spring is inside a steel tube, not strung across an exposed shaft. That matters in a garage where kids, bikes, and ladders live.
  • Real insulation at the top of the line: The Classic Steel 8500 hits R-16.22 with a U-factor of 0.12 — a serious door for an attached Mesa or Gilbert garage.
  • The widest material range we carry: Steel, real wood, fiberglass, vinyl, and frameless glass, all from one manufacturer with one parts pipeline.
  • WindSafe reinforcement available: Wind-load engineering is offered across several lines if your opening is unusually wide or exposed.
  • We're set up for the spring system: TorqueMaster takes specific parts and training. A lot of shops in the Phoenix area quote around it. We stock it.

Safe-Way Garage Doors

American-built in Warsaw, Indiana — and the SteelHouse line was engineered in Tempe, for this exact climate.

Up to R-17.68 Thermal-Break Sections 13 Collections Online

Safe-Way builds in Warsaw, Indiana, and their flagship Ambient Series is the most thoughtfully-built thermal door we carry: triple-layer steel around a high-density injected polyurethane core, plus a polypropylene bulb thermal break in the section seal so heat can't bridge straight through the steel at the joints. That's R-17.68. There's also an Arizona story here — Safe-Way's SteelHouse carriage line came from 1st United Door Technologies in Tempe, which built doors for Western homeowners from 1999 until Safe-Way acquired them in 2023.

Flagship Carriage Aristocrat Monarch

Eighteen carriage overlay designs on the premium polyurethane core with a thermal break, R-17.68. Deep character and top insulation in one door.

Aristocrat Presidential

The same 18 overlay designs on a triple-layer polystyrene core at R-10.25. Woodgrain-textured vinyl overlays over steel — zero wood to maintain.

SteelHouse Series

SteeLite Series

Modern design families — Delano, Fleetwood, Horizon, Legacy — in 23-gauge steel with the RITS™ truss system and large landscape windows. R-6.25.

Deluxe Series

24-gauge midrange steel, models 40–55, five panel styles, optional R-6.0 vinyl-back insulation, 14-gauge hinges, limited lifetime rust-through warranty.

Plank Wood Grain

Horizontal plank texture in flush or pencil-groove layouts on a Regency or Ambient base. Vintage, Cedar, Mahogany, and Charcoal tones.

Woodie Plank

Hand-selected tongue-and-groove Western Red Cedar laminated to a 2″ insulated steel pan door. Real timber with steel-door stability underneath.

Ventana Series

Contemporary full-view aluminum — 14 glass options, five design styles, anodized finishes including Dark Bronze and Black, custom powder coat by quote.

Why We Recommend Safe-Way

  • A real thermal break, not just foam: The Ambient and Aristocrat Monarch sections use a polypropylene bulb seal at the joint so heat doesn't bridge through the steel where the sections meet. R-17.68, and it behaves like it.
  • 23-gauge steel on the modern lines: SteeLite and SteelHouse use some of the heaviest residential steel in the category, reinforced with Safe-Way's RITS™ integral truss system.
  • Carriage overlays with actual depth: SteelHouse builds true dimensional steel overlays instead of stamping the shape into the panel — the difference is obvious from the street.
  • Limited lifetime rust-through coverage: Standard on the Deluxe, Regency, and Ambient section warranties, with the wood-look Madera finishes carrying their own 10-year finish warranty. Hardware is covered three years across the line.
  • Built for the Southwest by people who were here: The SteelHouse line came out of a Tempe manufacturer that spent 24 years building doors for desert homes before Safe-Way bought them in 2023.

Unique Garage Door

Made in Arizona — and the quietest door we install.

Made in Arizona Patented Quiet Hinge System Quoted On Request

Unique is the one brand on this page manufactured right here in Arizona, now part of the American Garage Door Factory. What they're known for is noise — or the lack of it. Their patented 11-gauge hinges with stainless steel load barrels, paired with their own roller system, make for the quietest door we hang. If there's a bedroom over or beside the garage and somebody leaves for work at 5 a.m., this is a conversation worth having.

Quietest we install

Why We Recommend Unique

  • Genuinely quiet: The patented hinge and roller system is the reason. On a house where the garage shares a wall with a bedroom, it's the difference between waking someone up and not.
  • Built in Arizona for Arizona: Designed and tested where the doors actually go — extreme heat, hard UV, low humidity, monsoon dust, and 30–40 degree daily swings.
  • Heavy hardware: 11-gauge hinges with stainless steel load barrels are well past the residential norm, which matters most on a door that cycles many times a day.
  • Short supply lines: Local manufacturing means shorter lead times and easier replacement panels years from now — no waiting on a truck from the Midwest.
  • Custom-friendly: Their whole model is custom doors, so unusual sizes and one-off configurations aren't a special favor.

Unique is quoted per project rather than from a catalog. Tell us your opening and the look you want, and we'll walk you through the options.

R-values shown are each brand's highest residential figure as published by the manufacturer; entry-level lines are considerably lower, and a single-layer door from the same collection may carry a different warranty than the triple-layer version. Warranty terms are almost always original-purchaser-only and non-transferable — each door's page links the manufacturer's own warranty PDF so you can read the real terms, and we stand behind our own labor and hardware on the installation.

Choosing a Brand for Arizona's Climate

Mesa, Gilbert, Chandler and the rest of the Phoenix area throw things at a garage door that most of the country doesn't. Summer afternoons run past 110°F, the UV is about as intense as it gets in the United States, monsoon season brings dust and sudden humidity, and the temperature can swing 30 to 40 degrees between 4 a.m. and 4 p.m. For a closer look at how steel, wood, and aluminum each handle that, see our garage door materials guide.

Insulation Isn't Optional Here

An uninsulated attached garage bakes all afternoon and pushes that heat into the rooms next to it. A polyurethane door changes how the space feels. The strongest options we install are Clopay Canyon Ridge at up to R-20.4, Amarr Olympus and Designer's Choice at up to R-19.40, Clopay Intellicore steel at up to R-18.4, and Safe-Way Ambient at R-17.68.

UV-Resistant Finishes

Budget finishes chalk, fade, and peel here in a handful of years. Factory baked-on paint is what survives — Clopay's premium paint systems, Wayne Dalton's baked-polyester finishes, and Safe-Way's Madera wood-look finishes have all held up well on the doors we've gone back to.

Thermal Breaks and Section Seals

Insulation in the middle of the panel doesn't help much if heat conducts straight through the steel where two sections meet. Safe-Way's Ambient and Aristocrat Monarch use a polypropylene bulb thermal break at that joint, and it's one of the more meaningful details in the category.

Desert Weathersealing & Parts

Fine dust and monsoon rain find every gap, so we reinforce the perimeter seal on every install. And think ahead about parts: Unique is manufactured here in Arizona, Clopay, Amarr and Wayne Dalton all have national networks, and Safe-Way and Invicta support their dealers directly.

Every Brand, Installed Right

The best door on this page won't perform if it goes in wrong. Misaligned track, springs that aren't balanced to the door's actual weight, weatherseal that never seats — any one of those turns a premium door into a callback. That's why who installs it matters as much as which brand you pick. If you want to see what the process looks like start to finish, here's our garage door installation page.

Precision Measurement We measure your opening to the fraction of an inch. A proper fit is what lets the weatherseal and the insulation actually do their job.
High-Cycle Springs Oil-tempered high-cycle torsion springs on every job, sized to the door's real weight — not whatever came in the box.
Full Calibration Track alignment, spring tension, cable tension, opener force, and safety reverse — every component set and tested before we leave.
Weatherseal Reinforcement Bottom, side, and top seals checked and reinforced for a complete perimeter against dust, heat, and monsoon rain.
Opener Compatibility We check your existing opener's horsepower, drive type, and condition against what the new door actually weighs before we sign off.
Our Workmanship Warranty On top of the manufacturer's coverage, we stand behind our own labor and hardware on every installation.

A new garage door is a decision you live with for twenty years. Here's what you get when you buy one from us.

Brothers, Not a Call Center

Brigham started Farnsworth Garage Door Service and runs it with his brother Riley out of Mesa. You're talking to the owners, not a dispatcher three states away. The Farnsworth name has been on family businesses across Mesa and the East Valley for more than 60 years.

Six Brands, No Steering

We're not locked into one manufacturer, so we're not talking you into whatever we happen to stock. We'll tell you honestly which line fits your opening, your elevation, and your budget — even when that's the less expensive one.

Licensed, Insured, Locally Owned

Arizona ROC #351810. Every install is done by our own technicians — we don't subcontract your door out to whoever is available that week.

We Service What We Install

Springs, cables, rollers, openers, panels. When something needs attention down the road, you call the same people who hung the door. Same-day service is our standard.

Great experience today with Brigham and Farnsworth. Garage Doors! Wife backed into and dented the bottom panel backing out of the garage before the door was fully open. Getting quotes and find since the door is 20 years old I can’t just replace the bottom panel. Brigham put a shoulder to the bend and straighted it, not perfect but better than it was, and added a couple of screw to keep things and place, for no charge! At some point will likely have to replace the door but this works for now!

Brigham from Farnsworth Garage Door Services was absolutely outstanding! He was incredibly kind, professional, and truly went above and beyond throughout the entire visit. He took the time to explain everything he was doing, answered all of our questions, and never made us feel rushed. What really stood out was how patient he was with our curious toddler. Instead of being bothered by all the questions, he happily walked him through what he was doing and made him feel included. It was such a thoughtful gesture that meant a lot to our family. It’s rare to find someone who combines excellent workmanship with such genuine kindness and customer service. We couldn’t be happier with our experience and would highly recommend Brigham and Farnsworth Garage Door Services to anyone!

Five of them — Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Safe-Way, and Invicta — have their full residential catalogs published on our site, so you can browse every collection before you call. Unique Garage Door is quoted on request.

Look for a triple-layer door with a polyurethane core. The highest ratings we install are Clopay Canyon Ridge at up to R-20.4, Amarr Olympus and Designer's Choice at up to R-19.40, Clopay Intellicore steel at up to R-18.4, Safe-Way Ambient and Aristocrat Monarch at R-17.68, and Wayne Dalton Classic Steel 8500 at R-16.22. For an attached garage in Mesa, Gilbert, or Chandler, insulation is the one upgrade that changes how the room actually feels.

Polystyrene is a rigid foam board set inside the door. It gives you moderate insulation — usually somewhere around R-6 to R-10 depending on the door — and it's the affordable upgrade. Polyurethane is injected as a liquid between two steel skins and expands to fill every void, which both insulates better (R-12 up past R-19 on premium lines) and makes the door noticeably stiffer and quieter. For an attached garage in the Phoenix area, we steer homeowners to polyurethane.

Clopay has the widest style range and the deepest catalog, and its Canyon Ridge composite doors carry the highest R-value we install. Amarr matches it on insulation at the top of the line and adds the SafeGuard® pinch-protection hinge and section design, plus spring coverage in its top warranty tiers. Wayne Dalton is the pick if you want the TorqueMaster Plus® enclosed spring system, where the spring lives inside a steel tube instead of running exposed above the door. All three are doors we install and service every week.

Yes, though the terms vary by brand and by model — a single-layer door and a triple-layer door from the same collection are often covered differently. Amarr's top tiers cover sections, hardware, and springs for life. Wayne Dalton covers steel sections against rust-through for life, with the TorqueMaster Plus spring on its own 3-year, 10,000-cycle term. Safe-Way covers sections against rust-through for life on its Deluxe, Regency, and Ambient series. Nearly all of these are original-purchaser-only and non-transferable. Every manufacturer publishes its own warranty document, and we link the PDF on each door's page so you can read the real terms before you decide. We also stand behind our own labor and hardware on the installation.

Yes. Every collection we carry from Clopay, Amarr, Wayne Dalton, Safe-Way, and Invicta has its own page on this site with photos, panel designs, color palettes, and the manufacturer's own brochure PDF in the downloads section. Most manufacturers also have online door designers that let you preview a style on a photo of your own house, and we'll confirm the exact finish on your written quote.
